Travelling to Glasgow
    
Glasgow is located 40 miles west of Edinburgh, 221 miles north of Manchester,
and 388 miles north of London, in south-western Scotland.
From England in the south, Glasgow is reached by the M74 motorway, a continuation
of the M8 that goes right into the city. Other major routes into the city are
the A77 northeast from Prestwick and Ayr and the A8 from the West (this becomes
the M8 around the port of Glasgow). The A82 comes in from the Northwest (the
Highlands) on the north bank of the Clyde, and the A80 also goes into the city.
(This route is the south-western section of the M80 and the M9 from Stirling.)
Glasgow's Queen Street Railway Station serves the north and east of Scotland,
with trains arriving from Edinburgh every 30 minutes during the day; the journey
takes about 50 minutes. You'll also be able to travel to such Highland destinations
as Inverness and Fort William from here.
The Central Railway Station serves southern Scotland, England, and Wales, with
trains arriving from London's Euston and King's Cross Stations frequently throughout
the day (the journey takes about 5 1/2 hours). Try to avoid Sunday travel, as
the frequency of trains is considerably reduced and the duration of the trip
lengthened to at least 7 hours because of more stopovers en-route.
Coaches leave London's Victoria coach station for Glasgow several times a day,
seven days a week. The journey takes approximately 9 ½ hours.
Glasgow Airport is at Abbotsinch, 10 miles west of the city via the M8. The
Glasgow CityLink bus service connects the airport with the city center. However,
most international flights arrive at Prestwick airport, further west, which
as frequent land transport connections to the city.
