Travelling to Leicester

Leicester itself does not have an airport, but the East Midlands Airport at
Castle Donington in north west Leicestershire is very convenient, just off junctions
23A and 24 of the M1 motorway (Leicester is on junction 21 or 22). There are
regular bus connections to the airport from Leicester. On the other hand, Birmingham
International Airport is 40 miles from Leicester and services both domestic
and international destinations. Also, Stansted International Airport has direct
train service to Leicester. Leicester can also easily be accessed from Heathrow
and Gatwick airports.
Leicester is well-connected to the main line rail networks. The Midland Mainline
provides a frequent service from London St. Pancras Station to Nottingham and
Sheffield via Market Harborough, Leicester and Loughborough. The Central Trains
operate hourly from Birmingham to Cambridge via Hinckley, Leicester and Melton
Mowbray. The main train station in Leicester is located 10 minutes walk from
the city centre.
The M1 motorway passes through the middle of the county (Junctions 19 - 24),
providing easy access from London, the South and Yorkshire. Other important
road links are the M69 and M42 from the West Midlands, M6, A50 and A6 from the
North West, A1 then A46 from the North East and A47 and A14 from East Anglia.
Approximate driving times are: London 2 hours, Manchester 2 ¼ hours and
Leeds 1 ½ hours.
