Geography of Liverpool Airport
The airport is an important regional gateway to England's northwest as well
as a convenient point of departure for trips to Ireland. It is situated close
to major road and rail networks while also within convenient distance from Liverpool
city centre.
Liverpool's Lime Street station is a regional rail rub, providing links to
major cities across the UK. Trains depart regularly for London's Euston Station,
a three-hour journey, while also frequently connecting Liverpool and Manchester,
a journey of around 45 minutes.
The M62 connects Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds, and also leads to the M6,
which heads south through Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham and London and the south
coast.
The Lake District lies to the north of Liverpool, situated in the lovely Cumbria
countryside, while the grand Pennines are a popular getaway to the east towards
Yorkshire.
The city itself is famous for the Beatles and the cultural attractions along
the banks of the Mersey River, as well as being a famous shipping port. Recent
years has seen Liverpool and neighbouring Manchester to some extent shed their
industrial image, which previously turned many visitors away, and nowadays tourists
are discovering the still untouched natural attractions of the region.
