Travelling to Newcastle Airport
The Metro underground system is the most convenient way to get to and from
the airport into Newcastle city centre and major stops throughout Tyne and Wear.
The Airport Metro station is located adjacent to the terminal building, where
services into Newcastle Central Station are provided every seven minutes during
peak times, with the journey taking 23 minutes. The Metro also stops at Sunderland
city centre. Newcastle Central Station is a major stop on the Great North East
Railway line offering direct services to London and Scotland and other frequent
services to destinations throughout the north.
There are frequent bus services connecting the airport with Eldon Square bus
concourse in central Newcastle, leaving every 20 minutes during the day Monday
- Saturday and less frequently during the evening and on Sundays. National Express
offers regular coach services to the airport from numerous cities in the UK.
The airport is situated close to the A1 highway which links Newcastle with
Edinburgh, about a two-hour drive to the north, and York, a two-hour drive south.
The A696 duel carriageway is accessible from both directions on the A1, is well-signposted,
and leads straight to the airport.
The Airport Taxi Association runs a service that includes wheelchair-accessible
vehicles from a desk within the terminal. All taxis are available immediately
in front of the terminal (tel: 0191 214 4308). Parkers Execulink operate a chauffeur
service from within the terminal building.
Short- and long-stay parking is available at the airport, with a 24-hour courtesy
shuttle bus connecting the long-stay car park with the terminal. Passengers
can save on parking costs by pre-booking (tel: + 44 (0) 191 214 4341 or 214
4346).
