Travelling to Oxford
    
Oxford is connected to London, the M25 and the Midlands by the M40 motorway,
with Junctions 8 and 9 linking directly to the city. The Oxford ring road provides
direct access to the south and west coast ports of Southampton, Portsmouth and
Bristol via the A34, while the A40 provides access to Gloucester, Cheltenham
and Wales. Central London is within a two hour drive, and Heathrow Airport is
just 50 miles away.
Oxford railway station is located on the western edge of the city centre, about
10 minutes walk from Carfax tower (the central point in the city). There are
routes from Stratford-upon-Avon to London Paddington and Bristol, as well as
Scotland. Services to London Paddington run twice an hour during the day, with
journeys taking around 60 minutes. En-route they pass through Reading, a major
rail hub west of London.
Coach services in Oxford are operated by Citylink, Stagecoach Oxford, and National
Express. There are fast and frequent coach services linking Oxford to London
(every 20 minutes) and Heathrow (every 30 minutes) and Gatwick (hourly) airports.
Stagecoach Oxford runs the popular 'Oxford Tube' service to London every 12
minutes during the day (15 minutes on Sundays), 20 minutes during the evenings
and every 30-60 minutes through the night. London stops include Victoria, Marble
Arch, Notting Hill Gate and Shepherd's Bush/Kensington Hilton. National Express
has daily coach services linking major towns and cities in the UK. For passengers
arriving via London Stansted, Jetlink operates direct daily services 757 and
767.
Oxford does not have its own airport. The three major airports most frequently
used by people visiting Oxford are Birmingham Airport, London Heathrow and London
Gatwick. All of these can be easily accessed by road and rail, with London Heathrow
providing the most frequent and varied range of destinations.
