Mini guide to Stansted Airport
 
Situated to the northeast of central London in Essex and dubbed London's 'airport
in the country', London Stansted Airport handles some 14 million passengers
traveling to and from destinations worldwide. Its smaller size makes boarding
less hectic while still acting as an important London gateway.
The airport has two terminals, an international and a domestic, with arrivals
and departures situated on the same levels. Over 40 airlines, including several
budget carriers, use the airport regularly, serving predominantly European destinations.
Both Travelex and ICE operate bureaux de change at the airport, with branches
found in departures before and after security, and another at international
arrivals which is open 24 hours. ATMs can be found before and after security.
Other facilities include a left luggage service (next to Monsoon), lost property,
and a chapel adjacent to UK Arrivals.
Stansted offers a wide array of shopping opportunities and world famous designer
brands and familiar high street stores. There are several large duty free stores
after security, as well as shops such as WH Smith, Boots, HMV, Tie Rack, and
Sunglasses Hut.
The airport is home to a good variety of restaurants, bars and food outlets
including Café Alba and Costa before security and Starbucks, Wetherspoon,
Caviar House and Est Bar after security.
Conference rooms and facilities are located in Enterprise House, adjacent to
the passenger terminal (tel: +44 (0)1279 66 2570). Wireless internet access
is available in the departure lounge.
Stansted meets EU specification for disabled passengers, with facilities including
dedicated parking spaces, induction loops for the hard of hearing, specially
designed toilets, and reserved seating with low level flight information monitors.
The airport information desk is located in the international arrivals area
and is open daily from 05:30 to 24:00.
