What to see by car: Swansea
    
The National Showcaves Centre of Wales is the largest cave complex in Northern
Europe. Located in the Upper Swansea Valley, ten miles north of the city centre,
the centre consists of three enormous caves, a dinosaur park, shire horse centre,
millennium stone circle, as well as Iron Age and Victorian farms. There is a
lot to explore and see here, the Cathedral Cave, which was opened in 1956, is
most impressive, with its waterfalls and lakes.
There are many quaint villages and towns near Swansea that are wonderful to
explore. Llanelli, 10 miles from Swansea, on the other side of the Estuary was
once a major steel town, but now has several attractions of interest to the
visitor: Millennium Coastal Park, Celtic Trail Cycleway, Pembrey Country Park,
Cefn Sidan Beach, and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. Kidwelly, 17 miles from
Swansea, has one of the best preserved castles in Wales standing on a steep
ridge above the river.
Mumbles to the west of Swansea Bay, which has been compared to the Bay of Naples,
because of its shape and beauty, is a little sea side village discovered by
the Victorians.
Cardiff, the Welsh capital, is also within an easy driving distance from Swansea.
Cardiff is a modern university city, with lots of charm and history and the
Cardiff Bay development is stunning and offers many activities for visitors.
Attractions include, There is the Cardiff Castle, the beautiful Llandaff Cathedral,
and many other historical buildings.
There are many beautiful beaches on the Gower Peninsula and they can easily
be reached by car. Caswell Bay has acres of smooth, golden sand, while Langland
is a family get away with golf, swimming, surfing and tennis. Rotherslade boasts
some of the largest waves in the peninsula at high tide and Pwil-du is secluded
and a great place to enjoy some privacy.
