Geography of Torquay

Torqay is located on the Torbay in lovely Devonshire county - an area of picturesque
villages, open moorland, green fields, rolling hills and beautiful beaches.
Torquay, along with the towns of Paignton and Brixham, make up the English Riviera.
The town is located 200 miles southwest of London, near the Devon and Cornwall
county border in the extreme southwest peninsula of Britain. It is within realistic
driving range of Penzance, Truro, Plymouth, Exeter, Taunton, Weymouth and even
Poole.
This stretch of coastline, with a wonderfully mild climate that nurtures sub-tropical
plants and the abundance of palm trees that flourish in the town, exudes a delightful
Mediterranean atmosphere.
Torquay is built on seven hills and thus boasts spectacular panoramic views
over Torbay. Its many sheltered coves, miles of beautiful beaches, and a backdrop
of high cliffs offer a spectacular place to relax and unwind in both summer
and winter.
Despite its remote location from the rest of Britain, it is a popular summer
destination on account of the beautiful Devon countryside and rugged character
of nearby Cornwall.
