Geography of Windsor

Windsor is located just over 20 miles from London in an area of Berkshire known
for its pastoral countryside, beautiful meadows filled with flowers in spring
and summer, serene river valleys and peaceful woodlands.
The River Thames flows through the town and the riverbanks of this calming
waterway are filled with an amazing variety of both flora and fauna, from insects
(including butterflies and dragonflies) and more than 20 species of freshwater
fish, to countless birds and wildlife. Although the castle has a commanding
position beside the river, it doesn't take long to stroll out into meadows beside
the river, and you can even go for a dip in the summer. In fact, the river is
now at its cleanest in living memory and kingfishers and otters can now be glimpsed
on certain sections of the river. Windsor is within easy reach of Surrey, as
well as Reading and Oxford and makes a fine day trip from London. A little further
down the river is the lovely town of Maidenhead. Windsor can be reached by motorway
via Slough - a busy centre nearby.
